Going Back Home

Private Accommodation

Students living in private homes are advised to clean their rooms and to arrange for inspection of the room. This should be done prior to departure. This is a way of avoiding any misunderstandings regarding cleaning or decoration of your room, which might otherwise result in extra bills after your departure.

Notify the Registration Office

You MUST also notify the Civil Registration Office of your departure. Fill in a departure form and hand it in or send it to the Civil Registration Office/Borgerservice together with your Health Card or write a letter to them indicating your name; CPR-number; Danish address; your home address and your date of departure.

Re-entry Culture Shock

For some, going back home can be as big a challenge as going abroad. You may have changed more than you realise, and will see things differently when you return back home. It can take time to settle back in, and this is often a big surprise to most students, as they are looking forward to going home and seeing family and friends again.

Prepare your Return

It is a good idea to start preparing oneself for the return by saying goodbye to people and places that have been important to you during your stay abroad. Try to think about how you may have changed and what you have learned, and allow people back home to adjust to these changes in you. Again it may be a help to simply be aware of it, and also if times get tough, try to recognise what you have gained and which skills you have acquired. Give yourself credit for it!

Health insurance

When you move home again and no longer has an address in Denmark, ending your social security in Denmark, and you must submit your yellow health card to the municipality.
